Making Media Literacy

a National Priority

In this presentation Tanya Notley will discuss the formation of the Australian Media Literacy Alliance and the work partners are doing to support the design of media literacy initiatives for children and adults. Tanya will consider the role of media literacy in the Global Declaration on Information Integrity Online and the opportunity for media literacy and civics education to be connected in the context of an ongoing Australian Parliamentary Inquiry into civics education and engagement. She will also share her top 5 library-based civics focused media literacy initiatives to enable a discussion with participants about what kinds of initiatives would work best in the Australian school context. As part of this discussion Tanya will include some key findings from her 2023 News and Young Australians survey.
